Rachel Haigler Harmon passed away peacefully in her home on November 9th 2023. She had just recently celebrated her 85th birthday with her dearest family and friends. Rachel was born on October 10th 1938 to William Ward Haigler & Allie Edwin Oxford Haigler in Lenoir.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Baxter O’Neil Harmon and her son Sheldon O’Neil Harmon.
Rachel is survived by her daughter Sharon Virginia Harmon of Lenoir, NC; her Granddaughter Sarah Osborne Wagner and husband Craig James Wagner of Wilmington, NC; her Grandson Daniel Craig Osborne of Dallas, TX; her Granddaughter Aubrey Harmon Mangum and husband Dillon Hayes Mangum of Concord, NC; her sister Anzonette Haigler Isaac and husband Joe M. Isaac of Lenoir, NC; and her brother Dwight W. Haigler and wife Peggy T. Haigler of Winston Salem, NC. Rachel is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Rachel graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1957 where she was an All Conference basketball player and the Homecoming Queen.
After graduation Rachel began her training in the X-Ray Department of Caldwell Memorial Hospital where she remained for close to 20 years until she began her sterile lab position at Greer Labs. Rachel worked at Greer Labs for over 20 years before officially retiring from Thompson Medical Clinic.
Rachel dearly loved Lower Creek Baptist Church, and was a devoted leader of the Women’s Missionary Union, President of the Pennell Mission Group, and President of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. Rachel also faithfully served with “The Golden Girls” from Lower Creek at Yokefellow every Tuesday.
Her darling Baxter, her children Sharon & Sheldon, and her grandchildren Sarah, Aubrey, & Daniel were the center and loves of her life.
Rachel spent hours every morning in prayer, devotion, studying her Bible, and always ended that time asking the Lord, “Where do you need me today?”
Rachel was loved & adored by so many and will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Rachel’s life will be held at Lower Creek Baptist Church on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kevin Burns officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall from 11:30 until 1:00 prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Osborne, Craig Wagner, Dillon Mangum, Bryan Ingram, Brandon Warren and Jerrell Laws.
Honorary Pallbearers are The Gleaners Sunday School Class and The Golden Girls.
