Rhodhiss- Mrs. Phyllis Ann Owenby Cannon, age 69, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cherokee County, NC on August 24, 1946 to the late Don Owenby and Frankie L. Tutterow. She was married to Jimmy Cannon of the home. Mrs. Cannon was a member of Joyceton Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook for her family and many wonderful friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, Paul Calloway; son, David “Cannonball” Cannon; sisters, Angela Calloway and Shirley Poovey; brothers, Donald Owenby and Clarence Calloway; and son-in-law, Edward Bentley. Other than her husband, Mrs. Cannon is survived by her son, Phillip Cannon; daughters, Nicole Bentley, Theresea Cannon, Ashley Day and Judy Poovey; brothers, Richard Owenby and Jeff Calloway and sisters, Wanda Calloway and Paula Calloway; her mother-in-law, Louise Cannon; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Greg Bradshaw. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 2:00 until 3:30 PM. A celebration of Mrs. Cannon’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 3:30 PM with Pastor Rick Miller and Pastor Rick Bowman officiating. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Dry Ponds Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Bradshaw, Jimmy Day, Chris Cannon, Shane Cannon, Rick Jones, and Tyler Buchanan.
