Lenoir, NC – Phillip W. Bentley, age 70, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Bentley of the home; one stepson, Diamond Brown and wife, Stephanie; sister, Ruby Sparks; granddaughter, Bailey Brown; two nephews, Marshall and Tommy Hedrick; four nieces, Martha and Jane Sparks of Durham, Anne McElwee of Matthews, and Susan Douglas of Hudson; and nephew, Eddie Montague of Baltimore, MD. He was preceded in death by one son Phillip W. Bentley, Jr.; father J.F. Bentley; mother Daisy M. Bentley; four sisters, Reba Montague, Hazel Kerns, Eula Douglas, and Rachel Winkler; two brothers, Gary T. Bentley and David M. Bentley. Mr. Bentley was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He was self-employed at Bentley Lathe Heads and retired from his business. Mr. Bentley was a talented musician playing the piano and guitar. He was also a gifted craftsman at making guitars. A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
