Peggy Shomaker

Peggy Shomaker Lenoir – Peggy Donna Lee Lamar Shomaker, 82, passed away January 30, 2015 at Grace Heights Healthcare & Rehab in Morganton. She was born June 7, 1932 in Randolph County to Quaker parents, Reverend Charlie and Nell Burns Lamar. She graduated from Asheboro High School, then married Allen E. Shomaker in 1955 and moved to Lenoir. Peggy held many jobs, most of all, a mother of two daughters, grandmother, and caregiver to many. Some of her careers included photography assistant, baker, seamstress, caterer, and floral designer, sales associate with Belk, Inc., instructor for several community colleges in the Continuing Education Department, also an Avon and Fuller Brush representative. Over a 6 year period in the 1960’s , she had traveled to 49 states and 2 countries. Shomaker was very talented and was known for her cooking, love of cookbooks, arts, crafts and numerous other self-taught skills. Her signature trademark was the fragrance she wore and the many silver bracelets that were always on her arm. Peggy was one of the founding members of Country Friends Extension Homemakers (now known as the Extension & Community Association) and a member of Indian Hills Baptist Church. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Allen E. Shomaker and a sister, Clara Mae Lamar Dyche. Mrs. Shomaker leaves behind, to carry on her talents, daughters Kayla Lamar Shomaker and husband Clyde Woodruff of Badin Lake, NC; C.Colette Shomaker of Lenoir; grandson Baron D. Eller of Lenoir; sister-in-law Pat Shomaker Brown and husband Ronnie of Granite Falls; nieces, nephews and numerous friends. A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 4:00 PM with Reverend Bill Bentley and Reverend Willow Carter officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Cody Griffin, Zack Griffin, Zack Newkirk, Stephen Watson, Daniel Setzer and William Oliver. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 prior to the service. The family would like to express appreciation to the staff at Grace Heights Healthcare & Rehab, Blue Ridge Healthcare (formerly Grace Hospital) and Burke County Hospice & Palliative Care for all the attention, care, and support during this difficult time.
