Peggy Riggs

Peggy Marie Pearson Riggs, 80, stepped into eternity to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 26, 2022.Peggy was born to the late Fred Willard Pearson and Nellie Marie Huntley Pearson Beaver on May 12, 1941, in Lenoir, NC.Peggy was a 1959 graduate of Happy Valley High School where she played basketball all four years.She was a faithful wife to the late John Rudolph Riggs, a devoted mother, raising three children, Michael, Mia, and Kara, and was an amazing cook, baker, and supporter of her children and their activities.She also loved and adored her five grandchildren. Peggy was a member of Crest View Baptist Church where she served as church clerk, Sunday School and Girls in Action teacher, Women’s Missionary Union, and sang in the church choir. She was a faithful member of the Gideon’s International Auxiliary where she assisted in the distribution of God’s Word for many years. Peggy is survived by her son Fred Michael Riggs of Lenoir, NC; her daughter Mia Riggs Lyons (Gary) of Greenville, SC; her daughter Kara Riggs Hensley (Alan) of Gibsonville, NC; and her grandchildren Meredith Lyons, John Lyons, Ellen Hensley, Mollie Hensley, and Jonathan Hensley.She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John, her parents, and her sisters Eloise Walsh and Judith Stafford. A public graveside service is planned for Sunday, February 6, at 1:30 PM at Blue Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Lenoir, NC with Reverend Michael Isaacs officiating.In lieu of a funeral, the family will host a receiving and celebration of life for friends and family around Peggy’s birthday in May.
