October 9, 1934 – February 16, 2022 Peggy Bradshaw, age 87, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at her residence. Peggy was born October 9, 1934 in Caldwell County to the late Lester Wayne Pitts and Ruth Knight Pitts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jesse “Pete” Bradshaw, six days earlier on Thursday, February 10, 2022; three sisters, Avis Pitts Miller, Jean Pitts Curtis, her twin, Elizabeth “Betty” Bolick, and a brother, Wayne Pitts; three nephews, Michael Curtis, Mark Miller, and James Pitts. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Terry Bradshaw, wife Barbara, and Lynn Bradshaw Smith, husband Kenneth of Lenoir; four grandchildren, Sean Smith of Hudson, Tara Bradshaw Smith, husband Tim; Ginger Bradshaw Harmon, husband, Shannon of Lenoir; and Ryan Smith, wife Erica of Fuquay-Varina, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle Harmon, and finance Maddison Lowder, Jacob Smith, Katie Harmon, Delanie Smith, Dylan Smith, Carson Smith, and Alice Smith; two nieces Angela Bolick Minton of Granite Falls and Pamela Pitts Wiener of Colorado; and a great niece “adopted granddaughter” Ashlyn Minton, two nephews, Rex Miller of Boone and Barry Curtis of Lenoir; a brother-in-law, Jack Bradshaw, wife Joyce; and a sister-in-law Louise Bradshaw, and a nephew, Tommy Bradshaw of Lenoir. Peggy was a member of Nelson’s Chapel Baptist Church, although she was unable to attend for many years due to her health. When she was able to be in attendance, she loved to hear the special music from the choir and loved to sing the hymns. Peggy loved music! Her instrument of choice was the piano. She would accompany Pete while he played his guitar and the family would gather around to sing. Peggy worked outside the home in various occupations, however she was the happiest when at home. She was an interior decorator at heart. Her home was her pride and joy. She had a special gift of bringing to life what she had envisioned her home to be. She painted, wall-papered, sewed window coverings, and designed and made interior wooden shutters. Her family, friends, and neighbors complimented her work and would often ask her to help them redecorate their homes. She always lent a helping hand painting, wall-papering, and sewing window coverings for their homes. Peggy also was a fantastic seamstress. She designed and sewed clothes for her daughter, Lynn usually without a pattern. She would look at a design she liked in a catalog or magazine and would make it. Usually, the garment was prettier than shown in the magazines. She designed and sewed her daughter-in-law, Barbara’s wedding gown and designed and made the bridesmaids dresses for her daughter, Lynn’s wedding. She was self-sacrificing in that many times when her daughter needed or wanted a new garment to wear, she would cut up a personal garment of hers and use the material. Also, she designed and made her daughter’s, and two granddaughter’s prom dresses. In the 1968-1969 school year at Hibriten High School, at the beginning of the football season, uniforms had been ordered for the cheerleading squad, but were delayed and would not arrive on time. Lynn, her daughter; and Lynn’s friend, Libby Smith volunteered their moms to design and sew all the uniforms. So, with the help of Nina Smith, Peggy and Nina saved the day! All the uniforms were ready for the first game! Peggy was a great cook. She made the best roast, spaghetti, soupy potatoes, and fried apple pies. Down through the years, her grandchildren would ask for her recipes. She would verbally tell them the ingredients. However, any dish the grandchildren made did not have the same exact flavor. The grandkids would tease her telling her that she would leave out a secret ingredient. Peggy was out-going, friendly, had a great smile. She was also a “secret angel” to many. Where there was a need she was there! She had many adopted neighborhood children who hung out at her house. No matter who dropped by, they were always welcomed. Peggy will be missed greatly. However, she is in Heaven worshipping her Lord, reunited with family, and Pete. Pete and Peggy’s graveside service will be held at Nelson’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 4:00 p.m., with Reverend Eddie Summerlin and Reverend Shannon Harmon officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Sean Smith, Ryan Smith, Dylan Smith, Carson Smith, Jacob Smith, Kyle Harmon, and Tim Smith. Many, many thanks to Chuck Campbell, Darcy Coffey, Judy Walker, Hailey, Joni, Donna and Michelle of Amorem Hospice for the love, care, and kindness shown to Peggy and her family; and to Kenneth Hopman, from Evans, who took special loving care of our mom the morning she passed.
