Dr. Paul Perry Hedrick of Lenoir, NC died peacefully at his home on Monday, September 30, 2013. He was born on August 17, 1936, son of the late Dr. Paul Enos and Waldine Perry Hedrick. He attended Lenoir city schools, graduating from Lenoir High School in 1954 where he was president of the student body and president of the Lenoir High School Band. He was a graduate of Culver Naval School, Culver, Indiana. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1958 and the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1961. He served in the Navy Dental Crops of the United States Navy from 1961-1963 and was stationed at Roosevelt Roads Naval Base in Puerto Rico. Dr. Hedrick practiced dentistry in Lenoir for 46 years where he will be remembered for his devotion to his patients. His professional interests have included presidencies of the Caldwell County Dental Society and Western Piedmont Dental Society. He was a Life member of the North Carolina Dental Society, American Dental Society and the American Orthodontic Society. He was a life member of both the Delta Sigma Delta dental fraternity and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Alumni Association. A very active man in civic life as well as in his profession, Dr. Hedrick was past president and life member of the Lenoir Optimist Club, member of the Board of Trustees at Catawba College, Lenoir Jaycees and past director of NCNB. He was holder of one dental patent and several copyrights. He was a member of Lenoir First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rebecca Torrence Hedrick; four sons, Paul Perry Hedrick, wife Mary Beth, of Charlotte, Joseph Torrence Hedrick, wife Courtney, of Kannapolis, Clyde Winston Hedrick, wife Julie, of Hickory, and Thomas Andrew Hedrick , wife Ellen, of Charlotte; four grandsons, Joseph Andrew Hedrick, Benjamin Perry Hedrick, William Torrence Hedrick, Matthew Henry Hedrick ; two granddaughters, Stella Rebecca Hedrick and Jesslyn Sloan Hedrick; two step grandsons, Jackson Robert Henline and Hartley Michael Henline; two brothers, Richard Reitzel Hedrick and Leslie Tilden Hedrick ; one sister, Jennifer Hedrick. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Hedrick on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM with Reverend Marietta Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The burial service will be private. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at the First United Methodist Church or Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care.
