Lenoir, NC- Paul Thomas Gurley, age 74, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 18, 1939 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Clarence Thomas and Annie Elizabeth Setzer Gurley and the husband of Mrs. Sue Ingram Gurley to whom he was married for 47 years. Paul was a retired builder and was retired from maintenance from the Caldwell County School System. He later volunteered then worked for Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. He and his Grandson Josh fashioned the gold fish pond that families enjoy at the Kirkwood location. He had also spent 6 years in the North Carolina National Guard. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Euless Gurley and two sisters, Kathryn Clark and Lillie Diggs. Surviving other than his wife are his two children, Tommy Gurley and wife Lisa of Lenoir; Paula Gurley of Lenoir; three sisters, Clara G. Wilson of Lenoir; his twin sister, Pauline (Polly) G. Crump and husband Pedro of Gamewell; Lorraine (Rene) Runion of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Dean Gurley and brother-in-law Lyn Haddock of Greenville, NC; 6 Grandchildren, Maston Sanders, Josh Gurley, Dylan Gurley, Chase Edmisten, Kaelan Edmisten Brandon Moore and one Great-Grandchild, Hailey Brooke Moore. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of Paul̢۪s life will be held 4:00 PM Monday, March 10, 2014 at Mt. View Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Clark, Preacher Paul Gentry and Pastor Jeff Hoyle officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Josh Gurley, Dylan Gurley, Chase Edmisten, Kaelan Edmisten, Chris Helton and Brandon Moore.
