Paul Edwin Geouge, Jr. was called home on June 10, 2023. He has been reunited with his parents, Paul Edwin Geouge, Sr. and Alice Young Geouge, his sister, Nancy, and a host of beloved friends and family members.
Paul was born on February 14, 1950 in McDowell County, and grew up in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. He graduated from Harris High School, and left the mountains to attend NC State University. Paul is a veteran of the US Army, and served in Vietnam. He was a volunteer first responder and firefighter with the Patterson Fire Department, and retired from AT&T after 33 years of service. Paul was a member of First Baptist Church Lenoir. He is survived by Jama Pittman Geouge, his wife of 47 years, as well as his daughters Kate Geouge Brown (husband John) and Lucy Geouge, both of Durham. Paul was also a wonderful ‘Grumpy’ to his ‘furry grandchildren.’
Paul, known to many as simply ‘Geouge,’ was an avid reader and lover of music, especially bluegrass, folk, and gospel music. He was also a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves. Paul had a clever sense of humor, was a natural storyteller, and had a handshake and a good word for everyone he met. Above all, Paul was a devoted family man, who spent his life providing for and loving his precious wife and daughters. He will be deeply missed.
Services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 at First Baptist Church Lenoir. Receiving will be from 1:30-2:30pm, with memorial following at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Amorem (formerly Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care).
