Patty Sue Benfield

February 22, 1949 — January 12, 2023

Patty Benfield of Lenoir, passed away on January 12, 2023 at Amorem Hospice.

Patty was born on February 22, 1949 to the late George Chester and Naomi “Peg” Chester.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Darren Michael Benfield, her brother, Danny Chester; and faithful furry companion, Rufus.

Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter and caregiver, Dawn Hardin (husband, Danny); her sons, Andy Benfield, Lee Benfield (wife, Elizabeth); step-daughter, Barbera Gomez; grandchildren, Kayle Hardin, Mayson Benfield, Riley Benfield, Jordan Crockett, Darren Benfield, Damon Benfield, Gavin Benfield, Logan Benfield, Victoria Coffey, and Amelia Pickett; her sister Jean Beaver (husband, Gary), nephew Alan Beaver (Wife, Heather), and bonus daughters, Heather Benfield, Tyra Setzer,

Patty loved the Lord and was strong in her faith.  She was a kind soul who would take anyone under her wing and love them like they were her own.  Patty always let everyone know how great it was to be a grandmother to her grandchildren.  She absolutely loved each one of them.  They always knew when they went to “Nanny’s” house, they were going to get all the snacks they wanted and have plenty to take with them.  You definitely never left her house hungry or thirsty.

If you ever drove down Morganton Blvd. and passed the “Chester” house, you would most likely see someone sitting on the carport watching traffic and waving to everyone they knew.  They were a front porch sitting family.  The porch was the place to laugh, talk, sing, pray, string green beans and be a family.  That house and porch held many people for holidays, dinners, laughter, and a place to be during hard times.  It was a place to go and feel safe, loved, and secure.

Patty was a hard-working lady, a wonderful mother, an amazing friend and a devote Christian.  There just aren’t enough kind words to describe who Patty was.  She was loved by so many, and she loved them.  She loved so deeply, and she was the person that was always praying for everyone.  To know Patty, was to know she loved the Lord, and she wanted you to know the Lord.  Her wish was for everyone to meet again in Heaven.  Patty always taught to keep close with your loved ones, love others, always pray, and love the Lord.

If Patty could tell you one thing, she would tell you to give your life to the Lord, read the bible, love one another, and she would most definitely tell you she loved you.

Patty told her family in her last moments here on this earth, “If I don’t see you again, I will see you in Heaven”.

The family would like to thank the Pastor’s that came and spent time with Patty, family, and friends.

They want to commend Amorem Hospice, nurses, CNA’s, and all the staff for the care, love and compassion Patty received and the family received.

There will be no services held at this time.
