Granite Falls—Patsy Rainey Bost Hollar passed away on December 23rd 2014.She was born in Magnolia, Arkansas to Jack R. Rainey and Patricia Henderson Rainey, on December 18, 1939.Patsy graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.She completed her Bachelor of Music Education degree with a major in piano at The University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, in Belton, Texas followed by graduate study in music at the University of Texas. Patsy was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Lenoir for several years. She then became a member of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir and was the choir director for ten years.She was the choral music director at Lenoir High School and for many years, the choral music director at Hibriten High School.Mrs. Hollar retired from Caldwell County Schools in December, 1999.Her choral music students consistently excelled in choral music competitions all over the southeast.Patsy also for many years, directed the Lenoir Singing Christmas Tree and the Treble Ensemble. She served on the board of directors of the historic Chapel of Rest and the Community Music Club of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie Rainey Bost. Survivors include her husband, Larry Hollar, daughter, Leah Johnsie Bost Vaughan (Andy) of Fuquay-Varina, two step-daughters, Julia Hollar Whisenant (Rick), of Asheville and Joanna Hollar Swanson (Eric) of Spartanburg, SC, sister Nancy Rainey Bell (Chip) of Lake Oconee, GA, and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Martin (Steve) of Raleigh.Mrs. Hollar is survived by three grandchildren:Anabelle and Rainey Scarborough and their father, Vernon Scarborough, all of Hickory; and Harper Jane Vaughan of Fuquay-Varina.She is also survived by six step-grandchildren: Wesley, Zachary and Luke Whisenant, and Lindsay, Collin and Jarod Swanson; nieces: Anna Pennell (Fabio), Carla Jardin (Charles), Ashlei Martin, Laura Hanlon (Zachary), and nephews: Adam Pennell (Janet), and Bilijack Bell (Lisa). A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014, 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Lenoir with Reverend Dr. David Smith officiating.Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Church reception hall.Interment will be private.
