Opal Suddreth

Mrs. Opal Smith Suddreth, age 88, of Lenoir passed away at her home on Monday, July 20, 2020. Born August 24, 1931 in Avery County, Opal was a daughter of the late Tom and Lola Henson Smith.Her biggest passion and her first love was Jesus Christ.Opal was a member of Poarch Chapel Church, but had been attending Hartland Missionary Methodist Church.She enjoyed playing horseshoes at church and had won many trophies.She loved sports, especially Basketball.She will be remembered as an avid Duke fan.In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Suddreth; a son, David Suddreth; a sister, Annie Smith Wiseman; two brothers, Odel Smith and Jack Smith; close friend, Bill Barker. Survivors include her daughter, Judy Hicks (husband Glenn); six grandchildren, Joy Ford (husband Chris), Jamie Main (husband Justin), Dave Suddreth, Robert Hicks, Angela Helton and Robin Beard;Eight great grandchildren, Johnathan, Jacob, Zion, James, Storm, Stephanie, Kalem and Lee; a special friend, Connie Lopez; she is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Opal’s life will be held at Poarch Chapel Church on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Wallace Smith and Pastor Danny Carr officiating.Interment will follow the service at Hartland Missionary Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that those who attend obey social distancing and wear a mask.
