Lenoir, NC Mrs. Opal Mae Russell of Lenoir, NC passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at her home. She was born July 30, 1929 to the late Blaine Postell and Rosa Lee Haas Postell of Caldwell County. Opal was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Russell and brother, Clay Postell. Opal lived in Caldwell County all her life. She was a Christian and attended Worship Point Baptist Church. She worked at Southern Bell as a dispatcher for 34 years. Opal was a graduate of the 1948 class at Oak Hill High School. She was very active as a secretary for the Telephone Pioneers of America for 34 years. Opal volunteered for 15 years at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She volunteered with the American Red Cross. Opal is survived by two daughters, Marlene Chandler, and Ramona Russell; two sisters, Louise Nichols and Joy Parson; granddaughter, Alisha Chandler; grandson, Chris Chandler (wife, Tina); three great granddaughters Kasey Seagle, Mindy Seagle, and Megan Chandler; great grandson, Trey Metts; great great granddaughter, Rylann Woodie; and a great great grandson, Rowen Anders. Opal’s family will receive friends on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Chapel of Evans Funeral Service from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The funeral will be at 3:30 pm with Pastor Steve Triplett from Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chris Chandler, Trey Metts, Nicky Metts, Brock Woodie, Michael Austin, and Tucker Stone. Honorary pallbearer will be Larry Postell.
