Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Ola Barlow Hamby, age 76, of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Concord. Born August 7, 1936 in Caldwell County, Ola was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Ferguson Barlow. She was a member of the Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church and the Gamewell Ruritan Club. She had worked in textiles for many years. Ola really enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Hamby; six sisters, Atha Barlow, Ruby Williams, Hazel Griest, Maryhill Maltba, Mabel Goodwin and Margaret Coffey; six brothers, Norman, Roy, Paul, David, Frank and Perry Barlow. Survivors include her children, Robin Carswell, husband Eddie, Crystal Bolick, Robert Hamby and Charles Hamby; one sister, Nancy Caldwell; four grandchildren, Kaylin Carswell, Cody Hamby, Cheyanna and Clayton Bolick; she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A celebration of Ola’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church at 4:00 PM with Pastor Doug Woody officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the church. Memorials can be made to the Gamewell Ruritan Club or the Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church.
