Norman 'Smitty' Smith

Lenoir - Norman Stephen “Smitty” Smith, aka “The Antique Teenager,” age, 74 of Lenoir, NC passed from this life on November 26, 2016 at UNC-Caldwell Hospital following an extended illness. Born July 6, 1942 to the late Vernon Campbell Smith and the late Emma Belle Smith in Knoxville, TN, Norman primarily worked as an over the road truck driver. He was the proud Commander of the Harper-Witherspoon American Legion Post 231. He loved music and was an old-school deejay before it was popular to be an old-school deejay. That passion led him to begin an Audio-Visual Ministry at church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Vernon Campbell Smith, Jr. and L.A. Smith; and sister, Vivian Smith Thomas. Left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Barbara Smith of the home; sons Norman Smith, Jr. of Marietta, Ga., Chad Fox and Marlon Powell both of Lenoir; daughters, Carla Patterson (Verdell) and Joy Grandy (Billy) both of Lenoir, NC; seventeen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends and associates. The Home-going Service is Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. Paul AME Church. The Receiving will be at 12:00 PM and the service at 1:00.Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the Disabled American’s Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul A.M.E. Church (Audio-Video Ministry) P.O. Box 1004, Lenoir, NC 28645.
