Nelson Charles Ziegler

Nelson Charles Ziegler, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Pike County, PA on October 4, 1939 to the late Myron Ziegler and Helen Kreidler Goodnow.

Nelson was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Succasunna, New Jersey after 30 years of service. Those 30 years were spent as a walking mail carrier and he was loved by everyone on his route. He often said the only thing he didn’t like about his job was the rain. During his time in Pennsylvania he enjoyed being outdoors and loved hunting with his son. Nelson loved the Lord and faithfully served wherever he lived, most recently, Waterlife Church in Lenoir. He was a loving husband, father and uncle, but his greatest joy was being Poppy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Brenda; sister, Vera Kuhn; and daughter-in-law, Lee Ziegler.

Nelson is survived by his children, Darcy Englert and husband, Ken; their children, Madison and Cody; son, Nelson Ziegler, Jr. and his sons, Travis and fiancée, Jessica and Corey and wife, Alyssa; sister, Janet Magrosky and husband, Jim; sister-in-law, Sharon Fino; niece, Tiffany and husband, Steve; nephew, John and fiancée, Cara; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Carlee and Jamison; and many other beloved family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Nelson’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 4:00 PM with Pastor Todd Braswell officiating.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waterlife Church, 1007 Morganton Blvd. SW, Lenoir, NC  28645.
