Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Nellie Dew Pope Smith, age 78, of Lenoir, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Carolina?s Medical Center in Charlotte. Born September 5, 1929 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late John Burl and Ella Hendrix Pope and the wife of Clarence Lafayette Smith, Sr. of the home. Mrs. Smith was a beautician for many years and a member of Tabernacle Advent Christian Church. Surviving other than her husband is her son, Clarence L. ?Zeke? Smith, Jr. and wife Pam of Raleigh; her daughter, Robin Morley of Morganton; 3 sisters, Shirley Crisp and Opal Bryant, both of Lenoir; Ruth Hollars of Hudson; one brother, John Dermont Pope and wife Lola of Lenoir; 6 Grandchildren, Dylan Morley and wife Kelly of Wilmington; Jeremy Morley and wife Olivia of Hickory; Bryan Morley of Wilmington; Kim Bolton and husband Graeme of Jamestown; Angie Williamson and husband Eric of Wake Forest; Rob Lewis of Raleigh and 4 Great-Grandchildren, Elizabeth Bolton, Kaylie Williamson, Jack Morley, Mia Morley and several nieces and nephews. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Kenneth, Charles and Burnice Pope and one sister, Beatrice Reynolds. A celebration of Mrs. Smith?s life will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church with Reverend Frank Hall and Reverend Hal Vannoy officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at Tabernacle Advent Christian Church.
