Nellie Hughes

Mrs. Nellie Stewart Hughes, 81, of Lenoir, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at her residence. She was born in Monroe County, TN on February 21, 1936 to the late Dave Stewart and Susie Freeman Stewart. She was married for more than 62 years to Jackie Edward Hughes of the residence. Mrs. Hughes was a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a devout Christian and a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Beecher, Ray and Ralph Stewart. Other than her husband, she is survived by her sons, David Hughes and wife, Karon; Ron Hughes and wife, Pam; Marty Hughes; Mitchell Hughes and wife, Patty; brother, Clifford Stewart and wife, Jean; sisters, Edna Boone; Violet Rogers and husband, William; Ellen Richie; Sue Wayman and husband, Donnie; Helen Anderson and husband, Sonny; grandchildren, Bradley Hughes; Scott Hughes; Josh Hughes; Laura Arndt; Jennifer Love; Brett Hughes; Bailee Burleson; Sarah Dice; Zack Hughes; and Natalie Hughes; great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Hughes; Preston Hughes; Jackson Love; Ethan Love; Juliana Arndt; David Ray Hughes; Kinley Burleson; Caroline Arndt; Maverick Arndt; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Hughes life will be held at Blue Ridge Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Larry Winkler officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will by Mrs. Hughes’ grandsons and Derek Soots. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 1:00 prior to the service.
