Ned Albert Hollar

April 27, 1937 — March 14, 2023

Ned Albert Hollar was born in Caldwell County, North Carolina, to the late Albert Pender Hollar and Carrie Puett Hollar and was preceded in death by a son, James Parris Hollar. Survivors include his two daughters, Robin (Eric) Hollar Loy, and Penelope (Penny) Carmean; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Sally) Medford and Elsa Swenson; two great grandchildren, Carrie and Riley Medford, two sisters, Nancy (Wayne) Parson and Janet (Gary) Winkler, and nieces Vicki Townsend and Kim (Ronald) Vance.

Ned Hollar graduated from King’s Creek High School in 1955 where he lettered in basketball and baseball. His nickname on the courts was “Speedy”. After graduation, Ned served for ten years in The National Guard. Gaining experience from one of his first jobs, he began a lifetime of entrepreneurial pursuits including Caldwell Sheet Metal and Heating Company, Ned Hollar Realty Company, Ned’s Superette, and Norwood Package Store. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, golfing (especially at Lenoir Golf Club), and growing beautiful tomatoes and other vegetables.

Ned retired to Murrell’s Inlet, SC, where he lived for 27 years before returning to Caldwell County in 2020. While there he worked in security at South Carolina Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

A celebration of Ned’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Stuart White officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

Military Honors will be provided by the United States National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers serving the family are Jonathan Medford, Ronald Vance, and Dalton Vance.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:00 prior to the service.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
