Ned Long Douglas

Lenoir, NC ? Mr. Ned Long Douglas, age 77, of Lenoir, peacefully went to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 1:34 P.M. Ned was surrounded by his family and close friends. Ned was a member of First Baptist Church in Whitnel and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Fairfield Chair as a manufacturing supervisor. Ned had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to fish. He was a lifelong UNC Tarheel fan and a new San Francisco Giants fan. He graduated from Hudson High School and attended, Clevenger Business College and Caldwell Community College. Ned was born September 10, 1932 to the late Arthur Augustus Douglas and Lucy Correll Douglas. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ted, Russell, Bill, Harding and Gus Douglas, Jr., and two sisters, Berline Marshall and Violet Mikeal. Ned was the beloved husband of Ida Mae Douglas for 54 years. He was a wonderful and loving father to a son, Darrell Douglas and wife Pam and two daughters, Donna Byrd and husband David (Buba) and Jennifer Saunders and husband Mark. He was a grandfather to Ronnie Wilson, Sarah Douglas, Ali Bumgarner, Tanner Saunders, Jessica Rupard, Josh Byrd and Shea Byrd. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Victoria Douglas and Linda Hebel Douglas. A celebration of Ned?s life will be held 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Whitnel with Reverend Stuart White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 10:30 until 12:00, prior to the service at First Baptist Church of Whitnel. Pallbearers will be: Mark Saunders, Tanner Saunders, David (Buba) Byrd, Ronnie Wilson, Darrell Douglas and Sanford Bolick. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Whitnel, Senior Citizens Fund, 1201 SW Connelly Springs, Road, Lenoir, NC 28645 or Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
