Myrtle Buchanan

Myrtle Carswell Buchanan, 83, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born in Burke County on May 16, 1933 to the late Joe Carswell, Sr. and Sue Burnett Carswell. She was married for 63 years to Fred Buchanan. Mrs. Buchanan loved to play golf but loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of College Avenue Baptist Church and volunteered more than 1,000 hours for Caldwell Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Carswell, Jr. Other than her husband she is survived by her son, Freddie Buchanan and fiancée, Angie Scott; daughter, Susan Heavner; sisters-in-law, Patricia Carswell and Gail Hall; brother-in-law, Bill Buchanan; grandchildren, Christopher Ollis; Cayla Ollis; Brooke Buchanan; Julia Scott; Willow Scott; and great-grandson, Damon Ollis. A celebration of Mrs. Buchanan’s life will be held at College Avenue Baptist Church on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Dr. Charles Brawley officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
