It is with heavy hearts, the family and loved ones announce the passing of "Woodie" Michael Avery Woodie, age 60, on February 2, 2025, after a short illness at Grace Hospital, Morganton NC. Woodie was born on October 3, 1964, and was a beloved brother, uncle and friend. He never met a stranger and always had a smile, joke or laugh.
Woodie is preceded in death by his father, Glenn Avery Woodie, and mother Mary Sue Kirby Woodie. Those left to miss him and hold his memories close are his sister Glenda Sides, and husband Eddie of Granite Falls, his eldest nephew Tommy Alan Sides, and wife Laura of Kingman Arizona, and nephew Jeremy Wayne Sides, and wife Crystal of Granite Falls. Also left behind are 3 great nieces, Bethany, Halia and Jacey.
Woodie was an avid Harley rider and car enthusiast. He was a devoted FORD man and proud owner of a Ford Mustang GT and 1200 Harley Sportster. He was always busy building model cars for the people he cared about. The cars he built always had the finest details created meticulously at his work bench at home. No matter what kind of car: slot cars, diecast cars, model cars, or race cars, Woodie would collect it. There is no other football team in the NFL except the Dallas Cowboys, ever. period. This is not up for debate.
Woodie, always a hard worker, was employed by Teijin Automotive Technologies for over 35 years where he met some of his closest friends. His friend list is too long to name everyone, but the ones that he spoke of the most often included, Kevin and Lori Annas, MountainMan, Ton "Smiley" Watson, Braxton, Jeff Burchette, Bryan Sanders, and Greg Price. The fact that Woodie had so many friends showed what kind of person he was. He never met a stranger and was always one of the first to lend a helping hand. He never spoke a harsh word about anyone and was loyal to a fault. He left this world but his memory and the honest, simple life he lived, will be remembered by all those who were fortunate enough to be a part of it.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 7th, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Evans Funeral Home located on Taylorsville Road, Lenoir NC. There will be a memorial service led by Reverend John Barnhardt at 2:00pm, followed by family and friends sharing their favorite memories of Woodie.
Fellow Harley Davidson and car enthusiasts bring those bikes and bring those old cars to share in the memory of this one of a kind man that was "Woodie".
Evans Funeral Service is honored to serve the family of Michael Avery Woodie.
