Granite Falls, NC- Mr. Melvin Duffey, age 72, of Granite Falls, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born August 16, 1936 in Caldwell County, Mr. Duffey was a son of the late Paul Nelson and Pear Lee Keller Duffey and the husband of Jeanette Cannon Duffey. Mr. Duffey was retired from Shuford Mills after 53 years of service. He was full of life, loved sports and fishing. Other than his wife, he is survived by one son, Jeffrey Allen Duffey of Granite Falls; 6 brothers, Junior Thomas Duffey and wife Betty of Granite Falls; Paul Warren Duffey of Hickory; Otis F. Duffey and wife Norma of Hudson; Rick D. Duffey of Granite Falls; John W. Duffey and wife Doris of Charleston, SC; Michael Allen Duffey and wife Darlene of Granite Falls; two sisters, Naomi Duffey Burs and husband Clarence of Rhodhiss; Nancy Duffey Story and husband Jack of Hudson and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of Mr. Duffey?s life will be held 2:30 PM Monday, July 6, 2009 at Dry Ponds Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Crouse and Reverend Simeron Hamby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:15 PM, Monday prior to the service at Dry Ponds Baptist Church.
