Lenoir, NC- Mr. Mearl James Hatley, age 77, of Lenoir, died Friday, March 16, 2007 in Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born May 20, 1929 in Caldwell County, Mr. Hatley was a son of the late Arthur Sidney and Hester Gragg Hatley and the husband of Jean Gilbert Hatley with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Mr. Hatley was retired from Thomasville Furniture with over 40 years of service. Surviving other than his wife are two sons, Lee Hatley of Lenoir; Randy Hatley of Chicago, IL; one daughter, Melba Metts and husband Nick of New Bern; one brother, Bill Hatley and wife Louise of Lenoir; 3 sisters, Marie Hudspeth and husband L.C. of Collettsville; Cathleen Coeburn and Blanche Benfield and husband Gerald all of Lenoir; 6 grandchildren, Jamie Hatley and wife Adora; Angie Hatley and Ryan Brown all of Lenoir; Danah Dunn and David Dyson, Jr. and wife Jodi all of New Bern; Dillon Hatley of Chicago, Il; 5 great-grandchildren, Kayla Dyson and Zackery Dunn both of New Bern; Devin Hatley, Colton Hatley and Lincoln Hatley all of Lenoir and a special nephew and niece, Terry and Barbara Hudspeth of Collettsville. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. Hugh Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be: Jamie Hatley, David Dyson, Terry Hudspeth, Ryan Brown, Bill Coeburn and Darryl Hatley.
