Maxine Kay Williams Champion

Maxine Kay Williams Champion, age 90, of Hudson, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Shaire Center in Lenoir, NC.  She was born April 18, 1934, in Morganton, NC to the late Arthur Davis Williams, and Alice Brittain Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Miles Champion, Sr.; her twin brother, Max Ray Williams; half-brother, Arthur Davis Williams, Jr.; and son, Robert Alan Champion.

Maxine graduated from Morganton High School in 1952.  She was a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, where she met her husband, Aubrey who she was married to for 59 years.  She also worked for Dr. Templeman, an Optometrist in Lenoir.  Her last job was at Promenade Bridal and Formal Wear in Hudson, which was her dream job.  She was a very active and beloved member of Hudson United Methodist Church.  She took great pride in her bridal doll collection.  She loved maintaining beautiful flower beds.  She enjoyed hosting friends and family in her home, especially for the holidays.

She is survived by her son, Aubrey Miles Champion, Jr.; three grandchildren, Ryan Alan Champion, Caroline Champion Baker, and Chelsea Champion Huffman; three great grandchildren, and half-brother Nick Williams.

A memorial service to honor Maxine’s life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Hudson United Methodist Church with Reverend Roy Hamby officiating.  The family will receive friends afterwards from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall of the church.
