Lenoir – Mrs. Mattie Ann Foster Davenport, age 92, of Lenoir, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.Born March 29, 1922 Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late William and Minnie Gragg and the wife of the late Noah Davenport. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Coy Davenport, two daughters, Katherine Locklear and Frances Pritchard, her sister, Mary Pendergrass, her brother, Howard Gragg and 3 grandchildren, Janice Davenport, Ronnie Davenport and Tonia Davenport Simmons. Mrs. Davenport will well be remembered for being such a caring and giving person, feeding the homeless and never turning anyone away who needed a helping hand.She assisted the late Sister Banner’s Ministry for many years. She is survived by her son, Tony Davenport of Lenoir; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Davenport’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Uiyeon Kim and Reverend Joe Parker officiating.Burial will follow in Belleview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir and at other times at the home of Keith and Chasity Triplett, 3335 Friendly Park Road in Lenoir.
