Matthew James Melcher

Lenoir, NC- Matthew James Melcher, age 23, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born in Portsmouth, VA on October 27, 1987 to Merle Ray Melcher III and Nancy Estep Melcher. Matt grew up and went to school in Newfane, NY where he remained in close contact with his friends still living there. He enjoyed working out and spending time with his friends. Matt particularly liked spending time with his brother, Ryan and was very close to his Aunt Ethel. He was also a volunteer with Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care. He was preceded in death by his infant sister; grandfathers, Chester Estep and Merle Ray Melcher II; and Grandmother Patricia Melcher. In addition to his parents he is survived by his brother, Ryan Melcher of Lenoir; grandmother, Louise Estep; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service.
