Matthew Joseph Hendrix

Matthew Joseph Hendrix, 46, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 23, 2023. Born May

26, 1977, in Catawba County, he was the son to the late Chuck and Robin Hendrix. Matt

graduated from West Caldwell High School in 1995 and went on to serve in the Navy.

Matt worked the majority of his professional career at Ronnie’s Body Shop. He also coached

children’s baseball and basketball within the community, and in his youth, he helped special

needs children. He spent his free time fishing, golfing, and washing cars. Matt was a devoted Tar

Heel and Cowboys fan. Even once his eyesight faded, he still kept up with every game. He

enjoyed visiting, facetiming, and laughing with his niece and nephew, and it made his day to

hear stories about them. Matt was always willing to help a friend in need, and would do all he

could to ensure those close to him knew they were loved.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Robin Hendrix, aunt, Terri Hendrix, and

cousin, Spencer Hendrix.

Matt is survived by his brother, Jon Hendrix (wife Abby); his nephew, Jonathan, and niece,

Peyton; his aunts and uncles, Tim Hendrix, Darryl Hendrix (wife Lisa), Ronnie Hendrix (wife

Denina), and Debbie Earp (husband Charles); cousins, Jordan Hendrix (wife Nicole), Stacy

Coolbaugh, Cody Earp (wife Bekki), Lindsay Young (husband Justin), and Caitlin Parham

(husband Desmond); and his loyal dog and riding buddy, Maude.

A casual Celebration of Life will be held at Meadowbrook Baptist Church on Sunday, August

27th at 3pm. Friends and family are encouraged to wear their finest Carolina Tar Heel gear!

In lieu of flowers, Matt requested contributions be made to his niece and nephew’s college fund.
