Marzetta Greer

Marzetta Hayes Greer, age 84, gained her wings on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born in Caldwell County on March 31, 1938 to the late Wade and Blanche Adams Hayes.

Marzetta never met a stranger, had a zeal for life that was unmatched and led a very active and independent life to all that knew her. Marzetta was a loving, caring, Christian mother to her daughter, Sarah. Affectionately known as Nana, her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a long-time member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Marzetta will be remembered by many in the community from her employment at People’s Drug, Burand’s, and where she finished her work career, Belk Department Store.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Robert Holland Greer; sisters, Peggy Beard; and Nina Queen; brothers, Clifford Hayes; and Jacky Hayes.

Marzetta is survived by her only child, Sarah Greer Koenig and husband, Mike; her beloved grandchildren, Norah Belle and Noah Robert Koenig; sisters. Claudia Hayes Novak and husband, Tony; Debbie Hayes Clay and husband, Stephen; Karen Hayes Bush and husband, Dean; brother, Ned Hayes and wife, Betsy; her best friends, Doris and Ramona; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Marzetta’s life will be held at Union Grove Baptist Church on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 3:00 PM with Pastor Sam Craven officiating.  Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service.
