Mary Kate Riggs

Lenoir-Mary Kate Riggs, age 97, of Lenoir, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at her home. Born February 1, 1919 in Laurel Springs, NC, Mary was a daughter of the late David and Effie Mae Woody Hart. She had worked at the Holiday Inn for 27 years. She was the oldest living member of the Calvary Advent Christian Church. She enjoyed and cherished her many friendships. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Z.O. Riggs; and 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Paula Sherwood, husband Norm, of Lenoir; her grandchildren, Todd and Jennifer Sherwood, Tim and Logan Sherwood, Amy and Josh Goble and Wendy Sherwood; she is also survived by eight great grandchildren. The family will have a memorial service at 3PM on Sunday, August 7th at Evans Funeral Service. Memorials can be made to Calvary Advent Christian Church at 1330 Delwood Drive, Lenoir, NC 28645.
