Mary Nelson

Mary Alice Ball Nelson, age 91, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, September 23, 2016 in Wilkes County. Ms. Nelson was born December 6, 1924 in Catawba County to the late James Robert Ball and Grace Smith Ball. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lenoir and graduated from Lenoir High School, class of 1943. She enjoyed NC State basketball and Atlanta Braves. Her hobbies included playing golf and working puzzles. She was retired from Broyhill Main Office. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Earl Ball and Richard Lee Ball; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Simmons Nelson. Left to cherish her memory are three sons, Alan H. Nelson (wife Susan), Michael J. Nelson (fiancé Pam Beck), and Jon R. Nelson (wife Donna); four grandchildren, Grant Nelson (wife Sherry), Chad Nelson (wife Becca), Sasha Ardison (husband Matt), and Tyler Nelson (wife Paula); 10 great grandchildren, Olivia, Owen, Drew, Emma, Katelyn, Gracy and Sawyer Nelson, and Triston and Karlee Rosenberger and Maggie Ardison. The family would like to thank the staff of Villages of Wilkes and Pruitt Hospice of Wilkesboro. A graveside celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Pastor Joe Angle officiating. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Service prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Alzheimers Association, 225 N.
