Mary Sue Drum

Mary Sue Triplett Drum, age 90 of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at her home in Lenoir, NC. She was born December 20, 1930 in Caldwell County to the late James W. Triplett and Annie Lou Steele Triplett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Rowe Drum, one brother, Marvin Triplett, three sisters, Beulah Warlick, Eula Church and Helen Triplett, and one son-in-law, Larry Haas. Mary Sue was a retired Administrative Assistant for Congressman Jim Broyhill and Senator Jesse Helms. She was a devoted member of Hudson United Methodist Church and strong in her faith. She loved her family. Before the pandemic, she loved going out to eat and visiting at local restaurants, especially Clarence’s Friendly Lunch. Traveling with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and lifelong friends were the highlights of her life. Loved ones left to cherish her memories are one son, David Drum Jr. of the home, two daughters, Deborah Drum Haas of Lenoir, NC, Victoria Drum Sawyer and husband Jerry of Lenoir, NC. Four grandchildren, Leslie Farris and partner Randy Dula of Lenoir, NC, Dawn Smith of Hudson, NC, Brandon Sawyer of Lenoir, NC and Allen Dean Hass and wife Corbie of Grasonville, MD. Seven great-grandchildren, Jonah Farris and wife Amanda of Apex, NC, Caleb Farris and partner Alaina Chandler of Granite Falls, NC, Laney Sue Carpenter and Grady Carpenter of Hudson, NC and Ella Haas, Asher Haas and Brielle Haas of Grasonville, MD, and brother, Charlie Triplett and wife Mildred of Lenoir, NC. Also, Mary Sue’s lifelong friends and classmates of Hudson High School, Class of 1949. She enjoyed her yearly class reunions at Captains Galley and trips to Gatlinburg, TN. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Evans Funeral Service Chapel.The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. She will be carried to her final resting place by pallbearers Allen Dean Haas, grandson, Brandon Sawyer, grandson, Jonah Farris, great-grandson, Caleb Farris, great-grandson, Grady Carpenter, great-grandson, and Randy Dula, special friend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hudson United Methodist Church, 383 Main St. Hudson, NC 28638. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.evansfuneralservice.com.
