Mary “Lib†Smith Blackwell, formerly of Hibriten Ave., SW, Lenoir, died of cancer on July 6, 2011 in Roswell, GA at St. George Village. She was predeceased by her best friend and husband Floyd Norvel Blackwell, Jr. She was born July 1, 1927 in Lenoir, the third child of Herbert Green Smith and Elizabeth (Beth) Bush Smith. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Marsha Blackwell Montague and Courtney Blackwell Robinson and Tom Robinson of Marietta, GA and son and daughter-in-law Floyd N. Blackwell, III and Virginia Lee Blackwell of Houston, TX. Her five grandchildren are Courtney Montague of Athens, GA, Beth Robinson of Fredericksburg, VA, Tommy Robinson of Marietta, GA, Jonathan Blackwell of Stillwater, OK and Ashley Blackwell of Houston, TX. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and was involved in the Women’s Circles. She was a Hospice volunteer for Caldwell County Hospice and did much of the volunteer work with her husband, Floyd N. Blackwell. Mary Lib was an elected member of Lenoir School Boards. She also served her Lenoir community as President of the Priscilla Book and Hibriten Garden Clubs.   Mary “Lib†grew up in Lenoir and graduated from the Women’s College (UNCG) in Greensboro with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She worked briefly as a social worker and real estate broker but will always be remembered for her vibrancy, enthusiasm and humor. Mary Lib and Floyd lived in Milwaukee, Chattanooga, Miami and Lenoir and made life-long friends everywhere they went. It is said that Mary Lib never met a stranger. She moved to St. George Village in Roswell, GA in 2009. Her friendliness and talkative manner soon had her knowing all the residents. Her life at St. George Village was filled with the performing Villagers singing group, bridge and community outings. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
