Martha Gilbert Shell

Mrs. Martha Gilbert Barlow Shell, age 80, of Lenoir passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Amorem Hospice in Hudson. Born November 6, 1942 in Caldwell County, Martha was a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Annie Massey Gilbert. Martha was a hard worker and possessed many talents. She will be remembered for her nurturing and graceful nature. Most of all she was a caring mother and MeMaw. Family was the most important thing in her life and she loved them unconditionally. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Gene Ray Barlow and Jimmy Junior Shell; sisters, Mae Gilbert Ashley, Thelma Gilbert Deal and Effie Gilbert Bradshaw. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Barlow Eller; a son Jimmy Dwayne Shell; grandchildren, Kolby Eller, Laurel Shell and Madison Shell; sisters, Mildred Gilbert Ward, Bessie Gilbert Welch, Peggy Gilbert Puett, Mary Gilbert Ross and Laura Ann Gilbert Pennell; she is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service celebrating Martha’s life will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Grandview Park Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Raymond Spann officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
