Martha Setzer

Martha Swanson Setzer, 93, of Lenoir went to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 16, 2020. She was the daughter of Toby and LidaSwanson of Lenoir. She is survived by her daughter, Gina Setzer of Butner, NC; son, Daryll Setzer and wife, Phyllis and their children, Josh, Dylan, and Bailey. She also has 1 great grandchild, Chloe; a sister, Merle Harris, 88, of Winterville, NC and 2 brothers, G.B. Swanson, 99, of Waynesville, Virginia and Furman Swanson, 101, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Kincaid, Ila Bolick, Margaret Dabrowski and her brother, Jim Swanson. Martha was an example of goodness to all who knew her. Her faith, generosity and kindness knew no bounds and she spent her life caring for her family and witnessing for her Savior. She took great joy in visiting the sick and homebound.She had a lifelong love of gardening and canned the best green beans ever eaten. Martha was never happier than when she found a patch of ripe blackberries to pick and no family gathering was ever complete without her potato salad.She led a simple life and was most content when she was home with her family close by. She loved being useful, working long after she could have retired. She had a creative spirit, finding art and beauty in God’s natural world.She was the 6th child in a family of 8 children, raised during the depression by their Mother after losing their father at an early age. They never considered themselves poor because of the love and affection they had for each other. Her family felt that vast love up until her last day on earth.To say she will be missed can in no way describe the loss that her family feels, but because of her exemplary walk through life, she has left her family with the knowledge that one day we’ll be together again. A private entombment will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Stuart White officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Central Baptist Church Mission Fund, 311 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, NC28645.
