Martha Ekard Greene

Hudson – Mrs. Martha Jean Ekard Greene, age 73 of Hudson, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, November 14, 2014.Born July 21, 1941 in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late John Floyd and Sadie Viola Austin Ekard and the wife of the late Billy Ray Greene. Mrs. Greene was a lifelong member of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church where she was active in missions and served on the kitchen committee.She taught Sunday School and was Sunday School secretary for over 25 years. She and her husband were owners of B & M Trucking.She had also substitute taught at Whitnel School for special needs. Mrs. Greene was an 8 year cancer survivor, but most of all, she will be remembered as a wonderful, Christian, honorable wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Diane Ekard. Survivors include her two daughters, Ann Fillers and husband J. D.and Billie Price and husband Michael, all of Lenoir; two sisters, Julia Kaye Smith and husband Haywood of Lenoir; Reba Coffing and husband “Bubby” of Hudson; five brothers, J.D. Ekard and wife “Cricket” of Hudson; Tommy Ekard of Hickory; Roger Ekard and wife Vivian of Hudson; Boyd Ekard and wife Debbie ofHudson; Alvin Ekard and wife Lea of Hudson; 3 grandchildren, Angie Tate and husband Billy of Lenoir; Jessica Hart and husband Randy of Granite Falls; Chelsea Price of Lenoir and 6 great-grandchildren, Shaina Crisp, Christian Hart, Jaymen Tate, Riley Tate, Phoenix Price and Lexis Calloway.She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. A celebration of Mrs. Greene’s life will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, November 16, 2014 with Pastor Nicky Waters officiating.Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 2:30 until 3:45 PM prior to the service at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church.
