Mario Demond Carlton

Mr. Mario Demond Carlton, lovingly known as Tank, was born February 5, 1975, to Elizabeth (David) Turrill and Clyde (Ann) Lipford. He attended Hibriten High School, where he played football and developed a lifelong love for the game. Demond was passionate about grilling, cars, motorcycles, and talking smack while enjoying life to its fullest. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Everette and Mary Essie Carlton and paternal grandparents Harley and Annie Lipford.

In addition to his parents, Demond is survived by his cherished children: sons Jakwan Carlton and Ahmad Carlton, daughters Zoie Carlton and Isabella Hartley. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters Nicole Burgess and Teela Lipford, as well as his brother Tez Lipford. Even during his brief stay at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Demond maintained his sense of humor, bringing laughter and good memories to his family in his final days. His faith remained steadfast. When asked how he spent his sleepless nights, Demond replied, “Talking to God.” In a moment of unwavering hope, he remarked, “They don’t know what God can do,” after receiving difficult news from his doctors. A few days later, Demond affirmed that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. On December 20, 2024, Demond was humming and laughing. He told his mom that he was humming an old spiritual. He assured the hospital Chaplain that he was at peace. These conversations reflecting the strength of his faith reassures and comforts his family.

A celebration of Demond’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 prior to the service.
