Marilyn Woods Smith, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 6 at Caldwell Hospice. Born May 25, 1937 in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Walter & Otie Mae Woods. Marilyn was retired from Hammary Furniture/La-Z-Boy after 40+ years of service. She was an avid bowler for over 50 years. A member of Whitnel First Baptist Church, Marilyn worked in the media center and served on numerous committees. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Smith; an infant son, Robert Eulee Smith; brother, Doug Woods; 2 sisters, Willa Dean Johnson and Doris Pope; and a grand-daughter, Jennifer Moody. Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Stafford (Eric); 2 sisters, Barbara Secreast and Betty Witherspoon (Jerry), 2 brothers, Max Woods (Geraldine) and Travis Woods (Geneva); 3 grand-children, Michael Moody (Seranie), Catlyn Auton, Brent Auton; 1 great-grand-daughter, Annie Moody, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 11 at 2:00p.m. at Whitnel First Baptist Church with the Reverend Steve Hedgecock officiating. Graveside burial will follow the memorial service. The family will receive friends at the home of Eric & Cathy Stafford, 1035 Cedar Hills Court SE, Lenoir, NC.
