Margie Hollar Glazebrooks, 87, went to be with her Lord on February 12, 2023. She passed in her home in the presence of her family after an extended illness. She is preceeded in death by her parents, George Washington Hollar and Fairy Garnes Hollar, by her sister, Lucille Hollar Eckard, her two brothers, Neal Hollar and Kenneth Hollar, her husband, James A. Glazebrooks; and her grandson, Justin Lee Whelton. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Bigelow Whelton and her husband, John Whelton of Middlebury, CT; her son, David Bigelow and his wife Beverly Coffey Bigelow of Hudson, NC; her daughter, Linda Bigelow McCue and her husband Ted McCue of Esperance, NY; and her daughter, Lori Bigelow Story, of the home in Granite Falls, NC. She is survived by 7 grandchildren, Kasey Whelton, Jacob Bigelow, Mary Bigelow Knight, Savannah Hastey, Eli Hastey, Travis Story, and Drake Story. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren; Toby Story, Jovie Knight, Mack Knight, and Eden Bigelow.

She always knew she wanted to go to college. She first graduated from Mars Hill College with a Literary Associate in Arts degree in 1956. She later furthered her education by getting a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 from Lenoir Rhyne College. Then finally getting her Master of Arts degree from Appalachian State University in 1981.

Margie loved children. She began a long career in teaching by starting her own kindergarten at North Catawba Baptist Church. Then, worked with the State of NC to start one of the first state kindergartens at Collettsville Elementary School. Over the span of her career, she lovingly taught and nurtured over 850 children! Her dedication continued after retirement when she became a Guardian ad Litem for Caldwell County, working as a advocate between the courts and children who had been abused and neglected. Later, she was a founding board member of the Christ Classical Academy in Rutherford College, NC.

She was a long standing member of Mtn Grove Church and loved her Sunday School Class so very much. It meant a tremendous amount for her to be involved in ministering to others about her Lord.

Margie loved nature, and loved watching her birds. She was adventurous - going on a cruise to Alaska, snowmobiling in New Hampshire, spending time at the beach in NC/SC, or always in the mountains. Before becoming ill, she would often find solace on the Biltmore House grounds. She passed her adventurous spirit and her love of the outdoors to her children, who will miss her until seeing her again.

Family and friends will celebrate her life at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Evans Funeral Service.  Memorials can be sent to Hospice of Wilkes County or St. Judes Children Hospital.
