Hudson, NC- Mr. Marcus Ivey Roberts, age 82, of Hudson, died Friday, July 8, 2011 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born April 8, 1929 in Caldwell County, Mr. Roberts was a son of the late James Ivey and Jennie Lind Smith Roberts and the husband of Mrs. Jamie Ruth Harmon Roberts of the home. Mr. Roberts was a lifetime resident of Caldwell County. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1947. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War, upon return; he worked at Broyhill Industries until his retirement. Other than his wife, he is survived by his children, Dr. Debra Templeton and husband Dr. Dennie Templeton, III of Radford, VA; Linda “Kay” Swanson and husband Wayne Swanson of Hudson and Mark Roberts and his wife Kim Roberts of Lenoir. Also surviving are his Grandchildren, Chadwick “Chad” Swanson and his wife Sandra of Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Lee Swanson of Hudson, Colby and Tyler Roberts of Lenoir and one Great-Grandchild, Isaac Swanson. His siblings surviving are: Basil Roberts and wife Linda; James Roberts and wife Jeanette, Drs. Kenneth Roberts and wife Jane, Helen Roberts Watson, Inez Roberts Morrison, Patricia Roberts Holt and husband Van, Theresa Roberts Barlowe and husband David; Aunts: Stella Roberts of Lenoir and Weyburn Hefner of Paulding, OH; and seventeen nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mr. Roberts’ life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Mt. Herman United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. There will be a reception following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
