Lydia Mae Gilliam

Lenoir – Mrs. Lydia Mae Seagle Gilliam, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. She was born in Caldwell County on April 13, 1927 to the late Lawrence Seagle and Mary Smith Seagle. She was married to Paul Gilliam of the home for more than 72 years. Mrs. Gilliam was a long-time member of Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl Seagle, Paul Seagle, Lawrence Seagle, Jr., Ross Seagle, and Claude Seagle. Other than her husband, Mrs. Gilliam is survived by her children, Paulette Prince and husband, Jack; Doug Gilliam and wife, Wanda; Sheila Poland and husband, Bruce; sister, Alice Severt and husband, Howard; brothers, Archie Seagle; Dock Seagle and wife, Margaret; Tommy Seagle and wife, Mary Lou; grandchildren, Doug, Jr., Zach, and Bailey Gilliam; Jaclyn Swyt; Jennifer Nolan and Julie Laferty; and 8 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Gilliam’s life will be held at Poovey’s Chapel Baptist Church on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Pastors Nicky Waters and Mark Dula officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the service.
