LOUISE PARKER OAKLEY, of Shaire Center, formerly of Woodsway Lane in Lenoir, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, October 8, 2010. A native and life-long resident of Caldwell County, Mrs. Oakley was born December 3, 1912, in Patterson, North Carolina, to the late Carrie McDade Parker and John Roy Parker. She was a graduate of Lenoir High School, Class of 1930. She was also a graduate of Davenport College, Class of 1933, the last class at Davenport before it merged with Woman’s College in Greensboro, North Carolina. During her lifetime, primarily as a homemaker, Mrs. Oakley also worked at Caldwell Furniture Company as a bookkeeper. She was active in The Lenoir Service League, several bridge clubs and garden clubs, as well as her church. Mrs. Oakley was happily married to the late D. Paul Oakley for over 50 years. Mr. Oakley died in 1988. They were married in the First United Methodist Church of Lenoir, in 1936, where they were active members and held various offices and responsibilities for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Oakley is survived by one brother, Henry S. Parker of Fletcher, North Carolina; a son Thomas P. Oakley of Greensboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard P. Oakley and Elizabeth B. Oakley of Candler, and their three sons, her grandsons, Matthew, Parker, and William, also of Candler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters; Royster Simpson, Ruth Parker, and Carolyn Phillips, and three brothers, William Parker, John Parker, Jr., Howard Parker, and a close cousin, Eva Sherrill. Burial will be in the Oakley family plot in Belleview Cemetery, on Monday, October 11 at 10 a.m. A memorial service will follow immediately after the burial at The First United Methodist Church in Lenoir at 11 a.m. Family and friends will gather afterwards in the Narthex of the church for visitation and refreshments. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to the First United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 309 Church Street, NW, Lenoir, NC 28645. Online condolences can be sent to the Oakley family at www.evansfuneralservice.com.
