Cherokee, NC- Mr. Louis Samuel “Sam/Shorty†Ward, age 70, of Twin Forks Drive, Cherokee, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Hospice of Caldwell County. Born June 1, 1935, Mr. Ward was a son of the late Lewis James and Eller Hunt Ward and the husband of Mrs. Faye Harris Ward of the home. Mr. Ward had worked in maintenance with Shuford Mills, was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in the Big Cove Community of Cherokee. Surviving other than his wife are four daughters, Mischelle Smith and husband Bobby of Gamewell; Lisa Greene and husband Greg of Collettsville; Lana Austin and husband Keith of Union Grove; Dolly Harris of Gamewell; 4 sons, Sammy Ward of Lenoir; Rodney Ward and wife Billie of Hudson; Kelly Ward of Granite Falls; Christopher Ward of Cherokee; 7 sisters, Pauline Childres and husband Horace of Granite Falls; Kate Armerchain of Cherokee; Mildred Cook and husband Jerry of Baton; Ruby Marshall of Hudson; Carolyn Cosby and husband Roy of Cajah’s Mountain; Betty Starnes of Clyde; Clara Sullivan and husband Jim of Buckeye, Arizona; one brother, John “Buster†Ward and wife Linda of Columbia, SC 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Maybell Ward, one brother, Edward Ward, 1 granddaughter, Brandy Nicole Greene and 1 grandson, Eric Ward. Funeral services for Mr. Ward will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2005 in the Church on the Rock in Sawmills by Rev. Wayne Brooks and Rev. Ben Trapp. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 6 until 8 PM and other times at the home of Kelly Ward, 5242 Lacy Road in Granite Falls.
