Lorin Dale Whittington, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Caldwell Hospice. He was born in Baltimore, MD on November 1, 1951 to the late Cicero and Dorothy Peters Whittington. Dale was known for his love and passion for music and was very gifted in playing multiple musical instruments and singing. He started out announcing on several of the local radio stations and later became involved in many capacities of the music community. In the mid 1970’s, Dale began his choral direction with one of the first elementary choruses in the county, Baton School. He later graduated from Tennessee Temple with a Master’s degree in Music Education. He directed the music programs at Swannanoa and Owen High Schools until his retirement. Dale is survived by his brother, Denis Whittington; sisters, Nola Soots; Sheri Beard and husband, Waitsel; nieces, Felicia McCall and husband, Philip; Allison Hall and husband, Rodney; Joy Kemp; nephews, Joshua and Joseph Beard; and other family members. A celebration of Dale’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 1:00 PM with Major David Sams officiating. Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the service.
