Lorene "Loraine" Cheek Grogan

Our precious mother, Lorene (Loraine) Cheek Grogan, 86, of Hudson crossed over to her heavenly home on Friday October 28 th , 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 17 th , 1936 in Ashe County N.C. to the late Carl L. and Mabel Church Cheek. She graduated from Beaver Creek High School and attended Draughon Business School before marrying the love of her life, Gene Grogan, in 1955. They were married for 64 years until his passing in 2020. They were blessed with three children, Beverly, Gary and Kristy. As well as being a dedicated mother and wife she served her Lord as an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hudson where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and worked with both youth and senior adults. It was not until the 1970s when she began working at Mt. Zion Day Care that she found her true calling. While working full time, she attended Caldwell Community College, studying Early Childhood Education. In 1983 with the full support of her husband and family, she stepped out on faith and opened her own child care center, Grogan Small World, where she continued to devote her life to enriching the lives of children. This was her ministry and she quickly became known throughout the community as “Mrs. Grogan”. Over the course of her life, this special lady has touched the lives of countless children and their families. Although she is gone her legacy will live on through those lives. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by a brother, Norman Cheek. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Beverly Norman (Larry), Gary Grogan (Sandra), Kristy Campbell (Freddie) and her precious fur baby Buffy all of Hudson; grandchildren, Jeremy Norman (Kelly), Tyler Norman, Tiffany Daugherty (Patrick) and Quinn Campbell all of Hudson, and Garrett Grogan (Megan) of North Wilkesboro; and great grandchildren, Keirstyn and Jayden Norman and Liam and Kenzley Daugherty of Hudson. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Pierce (Archie) of Fleetwood N.C. and a brother, Curtis Cheek (Peggy) of West Jefferson N.C. as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Grogan Family will receive friends at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Hudson N.C. on Tuesday Nov. 1 st , 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm. A funeral will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Nov. 2 nd 2022 at 2:00 in the afternoon with Rev. Stephen Owen and Rev. John Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy, Tyler and Jayden Norman, Garrett Grogan, Patrick Daugherty and Samuel Burgess. All other times the family will receive guests at the home of Loraine Grogan. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Hudson N.C. and Amorem Hospice in Hudson N.C.
