Lorena Katzfey Schmear

Lenoir, NC- Lorena Katzfey Schmear, 89, of Lenoir, NC, went to be with the Lord January 25, 2011, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by family and friends. She was born September 28, 1921, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to the late Joseph and Anna Katzfey. She was married September 4, 1940, to Armand (Jack) Schmear, who preceded her in death after 59 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. She was a Christian and attended Lenoir Community Church, where she and her husband served as custodians for many years and was currently a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church. She was a 13 year beloved resident of Koinonia Apartments, where she enjoyed independent living with many friends. Lorena is survived by a son, Chester Schmear and wife Karen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; a son, Barry Schmear and wife Susan of Mukwonago, Wisconsin and a daughter, Becky Hickok and husband Greg, of Lenoir, NC. She is also survived by grandchildren, Tammy Klipfel, Teke Klipfel and wife Dionne, Kyle Hickok, Kory Hickok and fiancé Jessica Oder, Lori Jo Schmear, Thor Schmear, Jodi Schmear, Chad Schmear and wife Tonia, Chris Schmear and wife Marsha, Shawn Schmear and wife Melissa, William Schmear and wife Connie and 16 great-grandchildren. Lorena requested no services and has donated her body to science. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
