Lisa (Lilley) Ruth Widener

April 25, 1961 — February 17, 2013

Lisa “Lilly” Ruth Widener, 802 Oakwood Street, Lenoir, went Home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of February 17, 2013. A special gift from God, she was born April 25, 1961, in Lenoir, to Rev. Gyles A. and L. Ruth Beane Widener of the home. In addition to her parents, she is survived by three brothers and their spouses: Tim & Lesa Widener of Lenoir; Mark & Sharon Widener of North Myrtle Beach, SC; and Nathan Widener of North Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews whom she cared for as her own: Rachel (Rachel Poo) Widener of Lenoir; Rebecca (Hopply) & Curt Calloway of Huntsville, AL; Stephanie (Stephie May Clampett) & Adam Vickers of Hickory; Mark A. (Marcus Welby) Widener of North Myrtle Beach; Tiffany (Tippy Toes) Widener of North Myrtle Beach; Shiloh (Shiloh Bilo) Widener of North Myrtle Beach; and step-nephews, Derik Matthews of North Myrtle Beach; and Alex & Jordan Smith of Lenoir. Lilly was blessed with several great nieces and nephews: Christian, Pyper, & Kolby Calloway; Gyles Mason Gryder; Alyssa & Aaliyah Vickers; and Maci Taylor Widener. As a young child she was named as the Poster Child for Handicapped Children in Rogersville, Tennessee, in 1969, and in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1974. She was also a nominee for the National Poster Child for Handicapped Children in Tennessee and Alabama. Besides being a prayer warrior, she was a member of the musical group, The Widener Family, where she sang and played a variety of instruments including tambourine, cabasa, harmonica and harp. She was member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Nebo, NC. Not only did she love her family members, but she also loved her church family as if they were her own flesh and blood. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Evans Funeral Service, Lenoir, NC, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Her Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1065 Paddy’s Creek Road, Nebo, NC, 28761, at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Gyles Timothy Widener officiating and the Southern Gospel group, Galilee, singing. The family will again receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
