Larry Eugene Hargus, 83, of Hudson, North Carolina, experienced one final change of address as he entered into his heavenly home to meet his Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Larry was born on December 5, 1940 in Catawba County to the late Ray Hargus and Lola Minton Hargus. He spent a big part of his life learning the land grading trade which led to him becoming a successful business owner of an excavation company for many years. During that time, Larry not only built a thriving company, but also built lifelong friendships with his colleagues. He was a member of The Gideon’s International and was honored to have had the opportunity to share the gospel. Larry loved hunting, fishing and working in his yard; however, his true passion and first priority in his life was his family and his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, with whom he is now seated in heaven. Larry lived his entire life with a giving spirit and loved taking care of the people around him, especially the ones he held close to his heart. He found beauty in life’s simple moments like recollecting stories of his past with his grown children, cracking jokes with his grandchildren and reading the bible everyday with his wife. Larry’s discernment, unfiltered humor and wisdom that he shared has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His love for his wife, children, and family will continue to live on in each and every one of them. They long for the day that they see him again in heaven!
Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Shirley Barnette Hargus; five children, Mark Hargus, Kim Shook, Kevin Hargus (Michelle), Cheri Pope (Mike) and Richard McNeil (Jennie); ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was also survived by his brother, Norman Hargus (Reita). He will continue to be loved and greatly missed.
A celebration of life for Larry will be held on Sunday, October 13, at 3 PM at Evans Funeral Home, 1070 Taylorsville Road SE, Lenoir, NC 28645. Reverend Jim Hamby, a life-long friend, will be officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 PM until 3 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park, 3010 US-70, Newton, NC 28658.
