Kenneth Ralph Pickerel, 79, of Lenoir, North Carolina died at home on June 13, 2024. Mr. Pickerel was born June 15, 1944, in Washington, D.C.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Honolulu, Hawaii in 1962, and retired from the United States Secret Service in 1988 after he became disabled in the line of duty while engaged in the Far East Task Force, Bangkok, Thailand. Before this he was employed for eighteen years with the Central Intelligence Agency where he served tours of duty in Cyprus, England, Zaire, Lebanon, Tunisia, Virginia and Washington, D.C. He honorably and faithfully served his country for 26 years. He was a member of The Association of Former Agents of the United States Secret Service, AFAUSSS, and an honorary member of The Office of Strategic Services, OSS, he also held a private pilot’s license/ IFR rating since 1975, and an Amateur (HAM) Operator since 1964. He graduated from the College of Evangelism and was ordained in April 2005. He enjoyed driving his 370z, Bible reading and studying, horseback riding, fly fishing, playing his Native American flute, gliding on his Segway, and helping others.
He is survived by 5 daughters, an adopted son, a brother, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and cousins Billie E. Monson and Connie Grosse.
