Kenneth Monroe Phillips

March 9, 1942 — April 13, 2014

Hudson, NC- Kenneth Monroe Phillips, 72, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014. He was born March 9, 1942 in Watauga County to the late Walter and Artie Phillips. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Terry Braxton Phillips, a sister, Opal Brown and a brother, Ernest Phillips. He was of Baptist faith. He retired from Ryder Truck Rental after 30 years of service as a master diesel mechanic. After retirement he was owner and operator of Phillips Industrial Coatings of Lenoir for 6 years. His happiness was found in many different hobbies. He was a member of the N.C. Cattleman Association, the N.C. Beekeepers Association, N.C. Woodturner’s Association, and the Lenoir Aviation Club. He loved the outdoors and he loved to fly. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Darlene Phillips, daughter, Tina Cannon and husband, Tim; daughter, Kim Phillips and fiancé, Mark Eller; daughter –in-law, Michelle Phillips; granddaughters, Amanda Crump and husband, Phil; Cameron Nelson; Rachel Phillips; and Sarah Phillips; and a great-grandson, Evan Crump; brother, Charles Phillips and wife, Betty; sister, Sharon Yoder; sister-in-law, Dorothy Phillips; brother-in-law, Furman Brown; and a best friend, Joseph Golds. A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Interment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5:00 until 6:30 PM.
